About Me
I am an artist based in Belgium. Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1987, I graduated from the Stieglitz Academy of Art and Design in 2012. In 2022, I received an MA from Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Sint Lucas Antwerpen.
Old-school academic training is visible in my work. Rigorous drawing, close observation, and precise anatomy form the foundation I developed through the academic traditions of the Saint Petersburg art schools. Meanwhile, my later education in Belgium opened up a different space—one of experimentation, questioning, and looking beyond established rules.
In my work, I move between discipline and intuition, skill and discovery.

Art practice
I don't choose the subject. I discover it. I start with a blank sheet and follow the form as it appears. I can feel the form before I know what it is. I draw to surprise myself, allowing the image to become something I could not have imagined beforehand.
I experience the emerging image as a three-dimensional object. I can mentally move around it and sense its weight, surface and texture before I know what it is. My academic training gives me control over form, while my process allows the image to remain unpredictable. I need both precision and accident.
I work with pencil on paper, using pencil dust, water, brushes and sponges to move between precise drawing and more fluid, accidental marks. The process is open, but my response to the emerging form is deliberate. Only afterwards I notice recurring forms: bodies, organs, plants, animals, beginnings and endings.
